Responsible for HMI research coordination, strategy and roadmap creation at Scania CV.
Educated as an Industrial Designer with focus on Human Factors at Lund University, SWEDEN, I started as the first physical usability expert at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications in 2004; at the time mobile phones were shrinking and so were the buttons of the keypads. We found out that the smallest keypads normal hands could master were about h22 x w35mm – compare with the touch screen keypads of today!
Going on working with the digital technology shift in the mobile phone business as a Product Planner, Usability and UX Expert until 2013, I saw the mobile phone going from a hardware “remote control with a camera” to the “digital handheld computer” of today. Via customer and consumer research I saw a lot of the shift-barriers and usability issues which the transport industry goes through today; from adopting to touch screens from miniature keypads, to the user conflict of wanting seamlessness between several devices, at the same time as wanting both clarity and privacy.
In 2014 I made a shift into the Commercial Vehicle industry at Scania CV, where usability research include larger risks than acquiring a “sms-thumb”; By working with user-focused design-loops and iterative usability testing, we ensured that the Scania NTG exterior and interior work environment provided excellent safety, efficiency and UX.
Using the digital shift in the mobile phone industry as a reference – where we from 2010-2020 saw our daily lives and the industry landscape radically change – I have worked the similar ongoing shift in the transport industry: As a Usability Expert, Product Property Owner, Manager of System Developers and Research Strategist, my mission has been to create a future sustainable workplace; be it inside, outside or remote from a heavy vehicle.
