How to design a product for the specific needs of children? This question was investigated by an experimental project together with Hyundai Motor Group and KIA Company on the example of the design of the rear seat area of family cars.
Based on interviews with experts from the toy industry and a pre-experiment with children, different solutions were defined and realized as prototypes. Subsequently, a final testing of the concepts with 10 children of different age groups was executed to evaluate the ideas as well as the success of the development process. Finally, inspired by the insights of the experiment, six generic design principles were derived and formulated.
